SWMCOL working to extinguish fire at Beetham Landfill

The Trinidad and To­ba­go Sol­id Waste Man­age­ment Com­pa­ny Lim­it­ed (SWM­COL) is ad­vis­ing the pub­lic that at ap­prox­i­mate­ly 8:45 pm last evening, SWM­COL’s Emer­gency Man­age­ment Team (EMT) was alert­ed about a fire at the south-west­ern end of the Beetham land­fill.

SWM­COL said while the fire has been con­tained smoke is still em­a­nat­ing from the site.

As such, SWM­COL is ad­vis­ing the pub­lic and those who live in the vicin­i­ty to ex­er­cise cau­tion as it works dur­ing the day to ex­tin­guish the fire and de­ter­mine the cause.

“We al­so take this op­por­tu­ni­ty to thank the Trinidad and To­ba­go Fire Ser­vices (TTFS) and SWM­COL’s Emer­gency Man­age­ment team (EMT) for their ef­forts in con­tain­ing the fire,” SWM­COL said in its state­ment.

The com­pa­ny as­sured that, “Fur­ther up­dates will be pro­vid­ed as be­come nec­es­sary.”
