Thieves stole nearly $100,000 worth of cash and items from Belfon’s Hardware Limited in Carnbee, Mt Pleasant. The store workers discovered the theft when they opened the store on Friday morning and witnessed that several areas of the hardware were ransacked.
The owner of the hardware was contacted, and upon further checking, several items were missing from the premises.
Reports say the missing items included cash, two Makita hammer drills valued at $11,000 each, four industrial mop buckets each worth $1,100, one Espec gas generator valued at $6,270, and four Arrow toilet sets priced at $2,150 each.
Additionally, thieves took three Shaiwana weed wackers valued at $5,879 each, four complete hoes priced at $200 each, eight $360 pickaxes, eight Total grinders valued at $565 each, and six $600 Truper palm sanders. The cash register was also emptied of about $18,800. Police believe that the thieves escaped through a burglar-proof gate on the northern side of the hardware store and a wooden door inside the fence.
