Thieves make off with almost $100,000 in cash and items from Tobago hardware

Thieves stole near­ly $100,000 worth of cash and items from Bel­fon’s Hard­ware Lim­it­ed in Carn­bee, Mt Pleas­ant. The store work­ers dis­cov­ered the theft when they opened the store on Fri­day morn­ing and wit­nessed that sev­er­al ar­eas of the hard­ware were ran­sacked.

The own­er of the hard­ware was con­tact­ed, and up­on fur­ther check­ing, sev­er­al items were miss­ing from the premis­es.

Re­ports say the miss­ing items in­clud­ed cash, two Maki­ta ham­mer drills val­ued at $11,000 each, four in­dus­tri­al mop buck­ets each worth $1,100, one Es­pec gas gen­er­a­tor val­ued at $6,270, and four Ar­row toi­let sets priced at $2,150 each.

Ad­di­tion­al­ly, thieves took three Shai­wana weed wack­ers val­ued at $5,879 each, four com­plete hoes priced at $200 each, eight $360 pick­ax­es, eight To­tal grinders val­ued at $565 each, and six $600 Tru­per palm sanders. The cash reg­is­ter was al­so emp­tied of about $18,800. Po­lice be­lieve that the thieves es­caped through a bur­glar-proof gate on the north­ern side of the hard­ware store and a wood­en door in­side the fence.

In to­tal, $89, 507 in items and mon­ey was stolen.

The Shir­van po­lice are still in­ves­ti­gat­ing.
