A death threat has been made against United National Congress (UNC) leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Police Commissioner Gary Griffith revealed at a press conference yesterday.
“We have a recent situation where one major political leader, there has just been a death threat on that individual and it shows the situation of where we live and how we live,” he said.
The commissioner opted not to identify the political leader.
“It was a call that was made where an individual stated that he intends to kill that political leader to ensure that political leader would not be Prime Minister after August the 10th. So the police we are investigating,” said Griffith.
Guardian Media was later informed that the threat had been made against the UNC leader. She had also been threatened in the build-up to the 2010 election, with a $5 million hit placed on her and was afforded additional security.
Persad-Bissessar participated in a campaign walkabout in Moruga/Tableland yesterday.
