Gunmen opened fire on a car early this morning, killing a fast food outlet worker who was on her way home from work. It two deadly shootings in Laventille overnight that claimed three lives.
Dawn Patricia Grant, 44, of Sixth Avenue, Malick, was a supervisor at a KFC outlet. At about 1.15 am, she was seated in the front passenger sear of a dark grey Nissan Almera car which was driving through Dan Kelly in Laventille when e gunmen ran out from a track and opened fire on the car.
Grant was shot several times in the head and upper body. Another person who was in the car was also shot and wounded.
The driver of the vehicle escaped unhurt and was able to take Grant and the other person to the Port of Spain General Hospital. However, Grant succumbed to her injuries at about 4.30 am.
In another incident, at about 8.30 pm on Wednesday, two men were killed in a drive-by shooting in St Barb's.
The victims have been identified as Dexter "Pull-Skin" Joseph, 31, of Upper St Barbs, and Joel Moore, 34, of Red Hill, Morvant. A third man, a 25-year-old from Laventille Road, whose name was not given was shot and wounded.
The three men were part of a group liming at Blundell Alley when a car drove slowly past them. A passenger in the car pointed a gun at the group and opened fired on them. The vehicle then sped off.
At about 9.15 pm, a 46-year-old Morvant man was shot in the chest while walking along Independence Square in Port-of-Spain. He managed to run to the nearby Besson Street Police Station for help. The officers took him to the hospital where he was treated and warded in a serious condition.
The murder toll now stands at 287.
