Three people were killed by police in an alleged shootout this morning.
Police reported that around 4:40 am, officers were on patrol along the Caroni Savanah Road near the Caroni Cremation site when they received a report of a car carrying guns.
The officers then saw the car, a white Nissan Almera, speeding along the road.
Officers said after attempting to stop the car, the driver rammed the police vehicle and two gunshots were heard.
After running off the road, two other gunshots were heard coming from the car.
Police then returned fire, hitting the three occupants.
The deceased were later identified as Amir "Pa" Bissoon, of Samaroo Lane Dookiesingh Street Extension St Augustine, Jodi "Gia" Barath and Joseph Ramjit of Kalpoo Street, Spring Village. All three were reportedly affiliated with the Resistance Gang, who police say are the masterminds behind extortion in central and north Trinidad.
Police said a black pistol was recovered.
