Kadeem "Running Star" Chance had a goal of building his career as a Merchant seaman working on container ships or oil tankers. However, his chance of becoming one was cut short when he was killed in a vehicular accident in Chase Village on Thursday.

Chance, 23, from Calder Hall, Tobago was driving a Kia Forte when he crashed into a wall along the Old Southern Main Road. He died on impact, police said.

The incident occurred at about 1.30 am.

Speaking with the Guardian Media, a close friend who wished not to be named described Chance as an "ambitious and intelligent young man."

"I do not know where he was going or what caused the crash but all who knows him including myself is devastated beyond words," Chance's friend said.

"He was focused and knew what he wanted in life and was going hell hard for it," she added.

Chance came to Trinidad a few years ago where he enrolled in the University of T&T to pursue Marine Navigation studies.

He currently was employed with a shipping company in Chaguaramas as an able-bodied seaman.
