Tobago records first murder for 2021

To­ba­go record­ed its first mur­der for 2021 when a game of cards played on the streets of Bethel turned dead­ly as four peo­ple were shot, one of whom died on Mon­day night.

The vic­tim was iden­ti­fied as 61-year-old Ryan Thorn­hill of Rise­land, Bethel.

Those who were left nurs­ing gun­shot in­juries are ages 25 and 22 of Bev­er­ley Hills, Bethel and an­oth­er 22-year-old of Cale­do­nia Road, Mt St George.

Po­lice said around 8:05 pm sev­er­al per­sons were gath­ered on the road in the vicin­i­ty of Sesame Street, Beth­le­hem, Bethel play­ing a game of cards (wap­pie) in the road­way when a man emerged from some near­by bush­es with a firearm and start­ed shoot­ing at the gath­er­ing. The gun­man then ran off.

A short while lat­er all four vic­tims were seen ly­ing on the road­way suf­fer­ing from gun­shot wounds.

They were sub­se­quent­ly tak­en to the Scar­bor­ough Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal by friends and fam­i­ly mem­bers.

Thorn­hill was pro­nounced dead on ar­rival at the hos­pi­tal while the three oth­er vic­tims are be­ing treat­ed at the hos­pi­tal.
