The Ministry of Trade's Trade Licence Unit has issued four hundred and sixty-three (463) Export Licences to scrap iron dealers, according to Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary Mrs. Ava Mahabir-Dass.
Mahabir-Dass said the Ministry of Trade and Industry is trying to make the transition into the new Scrap Metal Licensing regime easier.
She was speaking at a Sensitization Session with scrap metal dealers on Wednesday at the Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards (TTBS) Auditorium. According to the Ministry, the Session was attended by the Trinidad and Tobago Scrap Iron Dealers Association (TTSIDA) and approximately eighty (80) scrap metal dealers and aimed to facilitate information sharing and capacity building on the process and documentary requirements to apply for licences under the new Scrap Metal Act 2022.
According to the Ministry, scrap metal dealers received information on the application process for scrap metal dealers’ licences and Export Licences; as well as the role of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service under the new Scrap Metal Regime. Dealers also benefitted from live demonstrations on the TTBizLink and DevelopTT Platforms. Dealers were encouraged to use the information presented at the Sensitization Session to facilitate their submission of licences under the new regime.
