A traffic warden was injured at the Piarco International Airport on Tuesday morning after a motorist allegedly drove off while receiving a ticket.
According to the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago, the incident occurred on the Departures Concourse.
Preliminary reports state that the traffic warden was issuing a ticket for a traffic violation when the motorist attempted to leave, and the vehicle made contact with the officer.
The Authority confirmed that its Security Force and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) were immediately alerted and responded quickly.
TTPS officers intercepted the motorist at the Piarco roundabout.
The injured officer was treated by the Authority’s Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) team and later taken to the Arima Health Facility by GMRTT for further care.
Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Eli Zakour, has been informed of the incident.
He welcomed the effective response of the recently formalised multi-agency airport security framework and conveyed concern for the traffic warden’s well-being, wishing a full and speedy recovery.
The TTPS is continuing investigations.
