Trinidad shortlisted for World Summit Awards

Trinidad and To­ba­go is among 63 coun­tries short­list­ed for the World Sum­mit Awards (WSA 2024) for ini­tia­tives aligned to the the Unit­ed Na­tions Sus­tain­able De­vel­op­ment Goals (SDGs).

“Be­ing short­list­ed among 133 so­lu­tions from 63 coun­tries is an ex­tra­or­di­nary ho­n­our. It places Trinidad and To­ba­go at the fore­front of glob­al con­ver­sa­tions about in­no­va­tion, sus­tain­abil­i­ty, and in­clu­sive de­vel­op­ment,” ac­cord­ing to a state­ment from the Net­work of Rur­al  Women Pro­duc­ers of Trinidad and To­ba­go (NR­W­PTT).

“As the project ad­vances to com­pete at the WSA Glob­al Con­gress in Hy­der­abad, In­dia, we are re­mind­ed of the im­mense po­ten­tial with­in our na­tion to in­flu­ence change on a glob­al scale,” it added.

NR­W­PTT pres­i­dent, Gia Gas­pard-Tay­lor, who is al­so the UN­ESCO World Sum­mit Awards Na­tion­al Ex­pert for World Sum­mit Awards, has since ex­tend­ed “our heart­felt con­grat­u­la­tions to the Min­istry of Rur­al De­vel­op­ment and Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment for their mon­u­men­tal achieve­ment in reach­ing the semi­fi­nals of the WSA 2024.

“This recog­ni­tion un­der­scores the Min­istry’s un­wa­ver­ing ded­i­ca­tion to uti­liz­ing dig­i­tal in­no­va­tion to cre­ate mean­ing­ful im­pact in com­mu­ni­ties across Trinidad and To­ba­go.”

The NR­W­PTT said that the Trinidad and To­ba­go Lo­cal TT – Pub­lic En­gage­ment and Ser­vice De­liv­ery Plat­form ex­em­pli­fies the pow­er of tech­nol­o­gy to trans­form lives.

“By stream­lin­ing pub­lic ser­vices and en­hanc­ing en­gage­ment, this ground­break­ing ini­tia­tive is a tes­ta­ment to the Min­istry’s com­mit­ment to dri­ving progress aligned with the UN Sus­tain­able De­vel­op­ment Goals (SDGs).

“This achieve­ment not on­ly high­lights the Min­istry’s ef­forts but al­so in­spires us all to reimag­ine what’s pos­si­ble when tech­nol­o­gy and pur­pose con­verge. It’s a proud mo­ment for Trinidad and To­ba­go, show­cas­ing the re­mark­able strides our lead­ers are mak­ing to­ward a brighter, more sus­tain­able fu­ture,” the NEW­PTT, not­ing al­so the “tire­less” work of Gas­pard Tay­lor and Youth Am­bas­sador, An­geli­na Ali, in help­ing to bring “this im­pact­ful project to the glob­al spot­light”.
