Guardian Media’s Commercial Head Steve Dipnarine say the company remains the leader in local news content.
Dipnarine made the comment as he and Guardian Media Managing Director Dr Karrian Hepburn Malcolm were on hand at the company’s printing plant in Chaguanas yesterday, to oversee the run-off of the 105th anniversary special edition of the newspaper, which was done on special 33-inch broadsheet paper in commemoration of the T&T Guardian’s 105th anniversary.
Dipnarine said the T&T Guardian had evolved since it first came off the press on September 2, 1917.
He explained that the brand has become more relevant to the national community, as it has expanded beyond print and into the online realm, where it reaches 6 million readers monthly.
Dipnarine added that the social media platform puts the news into the hands of over 400,000 followers plus the 40,000 subscribers who receive news alerts.
He said the brand would continue to evolve and remain relevant not only locally but across the globe, particularly among the T&T diaspora.
Dipnarine said the circulation is currently the highest in the newspaper’s 105-year history and the hardcopy is the most subscribed newspaper in the country.
He noted that several changes took place over the decades as the T&T Guardian focused on areas of business with the Business Guardian, the Health and Education segments and recently Guardian in Communities.
Dr Malcom Hepburn said the special edition will feature information about the history of T&T as well as the company. She said it will also give young people a taste of what the broadsheet newspaper was like.
The printers began early preparation of the massive rolls of paper that had just the correct patina to create the broadsheet look and feel of times gone by. The press started churning out copies of the broadsheet at midday.
