SHASTRI BOODAN
“Divali allows for reflection on the dark state that Trinidad and Tobago is currently in…”
Sentiments shared by Member of Parliament for Couva South, Rudranath Indarsingh MP, as he spoke with the media at Divali celebrations hosted by the Chinmaya Mission at Calcutta Number 3, Mc Bean, Couva, on Thursday night.
MP Indarsingh said the residents of Couva South will pull themselves together to celebrate the Hindu festival of lights.
“There is a lot of darkness that has pervaded the constituency for the last seven years,” he observed. “In the last year, it has come to the fore in a greater form and fashion. The state of the roads—it is the worst in the last 30 years.”
The Couva South MP went on to paint an even more pessimistic picture:
“The infrastructure has collapsed from a drainage point of view… from a road point of view… from a pothole point of view… Water… and the Couva District Health Facility is crumbling.”
He added: “Crime is the order of the day not only in Couva South but throughout the Country.”
Indarsingh said the government is embedded with a number of controversial fiascos that seem never-ending. He said
“There is a darkness that the country needs to wrestle with and where the country is going… Whilst we will celebrate, we will reflect on the dark state of T&T,” he said.
