T&T students shine among top 2024 CSEC and CAPE awardees

The Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion has an­nounced that sev­en stu­dents from T&T have been recog­nised among the top re­gion­al awardees for the 2024 Caribbean Ad­vanced Pro­fi­cien­cy Ex­am­i­na­tion (CAPE) and Caribbean Sec­ondary Ed­u­ca­tion Cer­tifi­cate (CSEC) ex­am­i­na­tions, as an­nounced by the Caribbean Ex­am­i­na­tions Coun­cil (CXC) yes­ter­day.

In a me­dia re­lease, the min­istry said these stu­dents, along with oth­er high achiev­ers from across the Caribbean, would be for­mal­ly cel­e­brat­ed at an awards cer­e­mo­ny sched­uled for De­cem­ber 5 at the Na­tion­al Cul­tur­al Cen­tre in Cas­tries, St Lu­cia.

The stu­dents ex­celling in CAPE will re­ceive Top Re­gion­al Awards in their re­spec­tive cat­e­gories.

They are Alex­is Aqui, St Joseph’s Con­vent, San Fer­nan­do—Most Out­stand­ing in En­vi­ron­men­tal Sci­ence; Kha­dine Ram­bert, Holy Faith Con­vent, Pe­nal—Out­stand­ing in In­for­ma­tion and Com­mu­ni­ca­tion Tech­nol­o­gy; Char­lotte Hadeed, St Joseph’s Con­vent, Port of Spain—Most Out­stand­ing in Busi­ness Stud­ies, spon­sored by AC­CA.

At the CSEC lev­el, four T&T stu­dents have earned Top Re­gion­al Awards for 2024.

They are Na­tal­i­ah Castil­lo, St Joseph’s Con­vent, St Joseph—Best Short Sto­ry; Abi­gail Ramd­hanie, Bish­op Anstey High School—Most Out­stand­ing in Vi­su­al Arts 2D; Rizwana Ab­dool, AS­JA Girls’ Col­lege, San Fer­nan­do—Most Out­stand­ing in Vi­su­al Arts 3D; Rishav Per­sad, Na­pari­ma Col­lege—Most Out­stand­ing in Prin­ci­ples of Ac­counts, spon­sored by AC­CA.

Ad­di­tion­al­ly, two stu­dents from T&T will re­ceive CXC Spe­cial Awards fol­low­ing the 2024 CAPE and CSEC ex­am­i­na­tions:

Nicholas Abreu, Fa­ti­ma Col­lege—Er­ic Williams Foun­da­tion Award for CAPE His­to­ry; Zaria Ifill, St Joseph’s Con­vent, San Fer­nan­do—Most Out­stand­ing in CSEC Ge­og­ra­phy (Prof Wilma Bai­ley Award).

The min­istry said a sig­nif­i­cant num­ber of stu­dents from Trinidad and To­ba­go have al­so been named on CXC’s Re­gion­al Mer­it List for their stel­lar per­for­mances in the June 2024 CAPE and CSEC ex­am­i­na­tions. No­tably, Trinidad and To­ba­go stu­dents ranked first in 19 CAPE sub­jects, with 194 stu­dents list­ed on the CAPE Re­gion­al Mer­it List.

It said at the CSEC lev­el, 159 stu­dents from Trinidad and To­ba­go were list­ed, with top per­for­mances in twelve CSEC sub­jects.

Min­is­ters of Ed­u­ca­tion Dr Nyan Gads­by-Dol­ly and Lisa Mor­ris-Ju­lian ex­tend­ed heart­felt con­grat­u­la­tions to the stu­dents on their out­stand­ing ac­com­plish­ments, say­ing it was a tes­ta­ment to their hard work, ded­i­ca­tion, and re­silience.
