Min­is­ter of En­er­gy and En­er­gy In­dus­tries and Min­is­ter in the Of­fice of the Prime Min­is­ter, the Ho­n­ourable Stu­art R. Young MP and Mrs. Pene­lope Brad­shaw-Niles, Per­ma­nent Sec­re­tary (A.g) of the Min­istry of En­er­gy and En­er­gy In­dus­tries met to­day with a team from the Suri­namese Del­e­ga­tion vis­it­ing Trinidad and To­ba­go. 

The Suri­namese Del­e­ga­tion gave Trinidad and To­ba­go an up­date on their de­vel­op­ing en­er­gy sec­tor, in­clud­ing new oil and gas finds, with some fo­cus on re­new­able en­er­gy. His Ex­cel­len­cy Mr. Al­bert R. Ramdin al­so ac­knowl­edged Suri­name’s in­ten­tion to reen­gage with Trinidad and To­ba­go not on­ly on a po­lit­i­cal lev­el, but on oth­er more sus­tain­able lev­els as well. The Min­is­ter of En­er­gy and En­er­gy In­dus­tries and Min­is­ter in the Of­fice of the Prime Min­is­ter, the Ho­n­ourable Stu­art R. Young MP and Mrs. Pene­lope Brad­shaw-Niles, Per­ma­nent Sec­re­tary (A.g) of the Min­istry of En­er­gy and En­er­gy In­dus­tries met this morn­ing (Thurs­day 18th No­vem­ber 2021) with a team from the Suri­namese Del­e­ga­tion vis­it­ing Trinidad and To­ba­go. The team in­clud­ed His Ex­cel­len­cy Mr. Al­bert R. Ramdin, Min­is­ter of For­eign Af­fairs, In­ter­na­tion­al Busi­ness and In­ter­na­tion­al Co­op­er­a­tion; His Ex­cel­len­cy Mr. David Abi­amo­fo, Min­is­ter of Nat­ur­al Re­sources; Mr. An­nand K.E. Jage­sar, Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor, State Oil Com­pa­ny Staat­solie and Ms. Chanel V. Na­har Head of the Amer­i­c­as Di­vi­sion, Min­istry of For­eign Af­fairs, In­ter­na­tion­al Busi­ness and In­ter­na­tion­al Co­op­er­a­tion. 

Among oth­er items, the vis­it sought to up­date Trinidad and To­ba­go on the sta­tus of Suri­name’s de­vel­op­ing en­er­gy sec­tor in­clud­ing new oil and gas finds, with some fo­cus on re­new­able en­er­gy. Open­ing the meet­ing, His Ex­cel­len­cy Mr. Al­bert R. Ramdin ac­knowl­edged Suri­name’s in­ten­tion to reen­gage with Trinidad and To­ba­go not on­ly on a po­lit­i­cal lev­el but on oth­er more sus­tain­able lev­els as well. Suri­name is at the be­gin­ning of their ex­plo­ration in­to the en­er­gy in­dus­try and is seek­ing to col­lab­o­rate and strength­en ex­ist­ing re­la­tion­ships so as to en­sure sus­tain­able fu­ture growth.  

Both par­ties ac­knowl­edged the op­por­tu­ni­ties to part­ner, in­vest and learn from each oth­er for the ben­e­fit of the cit­i­zens of both coun­tries and un­der­scored the im­por­tance of the tran­si­tion to clean­er en­er­gy in or­der to re­main com­pet­i­tive with­in the glob­al mar­ket es­pe­cial­ly af­ter the re­cent COP26 Con­fer­ence.  

As a ma­ture province, Trinidad and To­ba­go has valu­able ex­pe­ri­ence with the many glob­al play­ers in the glob­al en­er­gy in­dus­try. Min­is­ter young stat­ed that “the door is open to Suri­name as the coun­try has been an ex­cel­lent part­ner and friend to Trinidad and To­ba­go” and there is the po­ten­tial to ex­plore the pos­si­bil­i­ty for joint ven­tures be­tween the two coun­tries.   

The del­e­ga­tion has met al­so with oth­ers dur­ing their trip in­clud­ing Na­tion­al En­er­gy, the Min­istry of Trade and In­dus­tries and the Min­istry of For­eign and CARI­COM Af­fairs.
