The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission, T&TEC has continued its public lighting programme with the commissioning of lights at the Croton and Gardenia Recreation Ground in Malabar.

Speaking at the launch on Saturday evening, Member of Parliament for D’Abadie/ O’Meara, Lisa Morris Julian, noted the commissioning of lights at the facility symbolised the power of light over darkness. She added that it signalled a new era of sporting activity for the Malabar Community, which stands in stark contrast to a previous sports programme instituted by a former administration that served to engender a culture of violence among its participants.

The project was completed at a total cost of approximately $960,000.

Echoing her sentiments was Minister of Public Utilities, the Honourable Marvin Gonzales, who noted that the newly installed lights provided the ideal opportunity for the residents of Malabar to engage in the kind of positive activity that would help to rebuild their community.
