Police are warning the public to desist from allowing minors, not yet of legal driving age, to operate a vehicle.

This comes after a video surfaced on social media showing a child driving a B-15 Nissan down an incline.

The child was being encouraged by someone behind the camera as he drove done, he who appears to be nine years old is then seen putting the car in park and pulling up the handbrakes.

Well, the police say they are taking this action seriously and are reminding the public that no one should employ a person to drive a motor vehicle unless that person has a valid driving permit for the class of vehicle being driven.

Those found disregarding this law are liable to a $750 fine or six months imprisonmen

And under the Children’s Act someone who has responsibility for a child and willfully exposes the child in a manner likely to cause that child suffering or injury to their health can be fined $5,000 or be imprisoned for six years on summary conviction, or fined $50,000 or imprisoned for 10 years on conviction on indictment.

On Friday, Minister of Gender and Child Affairs Ayanna Webster-Roy also warned parents about putting their children at risk.

Investigations related to the video are continuing.
