An altercation between a vendor and member of public ended in a stabbing leaving one man dead.
Keron Thomas, 42 aka “Moosai,” of Sangre Grande, a vendor who operates his booth opposite the Sangre Grande Market on Cunapo Southern Main Road was pronounced dead on arrival at the Sangre Grande Hospital after he was stabbed on the left side of his chest by his assailant on Monday.
According to a police report around 12:30 pm on Monday, a fight ensued between the deceased and another man at the front of the vendor’s stall.
The man left and returned a short while after when he attacked Thomas stabbing him. Thomas was placed in a private car and his assailant followed the car stabbing the deceased on his chest before he made his escape.
Thomas arrived at the Sangre Grande Hospital bleeding profusely and was pronounced dead on arrival at the health institution.
A post mortem is carded for Thomas on Tuesday at the Forensic Science Centre to determine the cause of death.
The officers interviewed businessmen, members of the public and vendors of the Sangre Grande Market.
However, police were able to obtain CCTV footage which is assisting them in their investigation. An arrest is imminent.
Vendors are now saying they are fearful for their lives. They have called for more security at the market and are also calling on the municipal police to be more active in and around the market.
Kenwyn Phillip, Chairman of the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation said the incident did not happen in the market but he will have a conversation with Insp White, head of the Municipal Police to have more security and regular patrols at the Sangre Grande market and environs.
