A nurse was gunned down near the Princes Town District Health Facility just after she finished work yesterday afternoon.
Sadna Gangoo, 44, of Princes Town, died next to her car on the side of the road.
Initial reports stated that Gangoo finished work at 4 pm and was about to enter her car, which was parked along Circular Road, when a silver Nissan Tiida pulled up. A man got out the car, approached and shot her in the head. He then returned to the car and the driver sped away.
A male relative at the scene told reporters her murder did not come as a shock. He did not want to give any further details but he claimed police reports were made and those matters are under investigation.
She was the mother of one and grandmother of two. She was a contestant in this year’s Miss India Worldwide T&T pageant.
In a statement yesterday, the South-West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA) confirmed the incident happened a short distance away from the facility but assured security measures have been strengthened.
“This incident is currently receiving the attention of law enforcement agencies, including the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS). Additionally, security protocols have been strengthened, while professional counselling support services made available to all employees,” the release stated.
Gangoo’s death triggered an outpouring of sadness, condolences and shock over social media.
Police were last evening still trying to narrow down a motive.
A party of officers, including officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region 3, led by Senior Supt Sean Dhilpaul, Assistant Supt Anil Maharaj and Supnt Steve Persad, visited the scene.
Investigations are continuing.
