Venezuela's National Assembly yesterday approved the package of measures regarding the Essequibo region announced by President Nicolas Maduro which included a new map of Venezuela encompassing the Essequibo - and the creation of divisions to grant licences for oil, gas and mining exploitation.
The Assembly met to debate the measures yesterday. Venezuelan officials said they were likely to be approved since the government had the majority.
According to Maduro's social media account, on Tuesday he ordered that a set of actions be taken by his Government to implement the result of last Sunday's referendum where voters heavily backed the country's territorial claim of the Essequibo.
The measures will be executed for the claim of "our fundamental rights" to work in defence of the national territory, it was stated.
The measures are:
*Immediately publish and take to all schools, lyceums, municipal councils, public establishments, universities and in all homes, "the new Map of Venezuela with our Guyana Esequiba".
*Immediate creation of the division "PDVAS Esequibo" and CVG Esequibo" to grant licences for oil, gas and mine exploitation.
"Drafting of special law to establish a rule prohibiting contracting with companies operating in the "Unilateral concessions given by Guyana in the Sea delimitation"
*Creation of a new High Commission for the Defence of Guyana Esequiba, coordinated by Vice President Delcy Rodriguez
*Activation of a human/social care plan for Essequibo's entire population that includes census and identity cards and the opening of an office for the delivery of ID cards to the population-based in Tumeremo.
*Create the Zone of Integral Defence of the Essequiba with 3 areas and 28 sectors of integral development in Tumeremo.
*Designate Alexis Rodríguez Cabello as sole authority of the Esequiba with political and administrative headquarters in Tumeremo.
* Immediately activate debate in the National Assembly for approval of law for the defence of the Esequiba where environmental protection areas and new protected parks are decreed centres of tourism and biodiversity.
Maduro stated his Government will deepen "the ties of dialogue to listen to all of Venezuela through the High Commission for the Defence of the Essequibo. That comprises the Federal Government Council, State Council, National Defence Council, and political and religious sectors.
Also, yesterday Venezuela's Attorney General Tarek William Saab announced the launch of preliminary investigation into an alleged bribery scheme by ExxonMobil with opposition politicians. He alleged Guyana was being "used" by the US company to seize natural resources belonging to Venezuela. He claimed they found a plot aimed at boycotting the Essequibo referendum.
