WASA says it is aware of the images circulating on social media which show a WASA Tanker discharging a substance into the Diego Martin River.
According to a release, WASA launched an investigation into the matter, which revealed that the substance was not sewage, but grey water from a job being conducted in the Port-of-Spain area at the time.
WASA assures the grey water discharged was not harmful to public health or the environment and says both the water supply and wastewater systems remain uncompromised.
However, it acknowledged the manner in which the grey water was handled, "does not conform to the strictest standards by which the Authority is guided."
WASA says it will "be taking the necessary steps to hold the person/s engaged in the aforementioned activity, to account for their actions."
