WASA says it is aware of the im­ages cir­cu­lat­ing on so­cial me­dia which show a WASA Tanker dis­charg­ing a sub­stance in­to the Diego Mar­tin Riv­er.

Ac­cord­ing to a re­lease, WASA launched an in­ves­ti­ga­tion in­to the mat­ter, which re­vealed that the sub­stance was not sewage, but grey wa­ter from a job be­ing con­duct­ed in the Port-of-Spain area at the time.

WASA as­sures the grey wa­ter dis­charged was not harm­ful to pub­lic health or the en­vi­ron­ment and says both the wa­ter sup­ply and waste­water sys­tems re­main un­com­pro­mised.

How­ev­er, it ac­knowl­edged the man­ner in which the grey wa­ter was han­dled, "does not con­form to the strictest stan­dards by which the Au­thor­i­ty is guid­ed."

WASA says it will "be tak­ing the nec­es­sary steps to hold the per­son/s en­gaged in the afore­men­tioned ac­tiv­i­ty, to ac­count for their ac­tions."
