A 40-year-old counter clerk was kidnapped and robbed after entering a car she believed to be a taxi in San Fernando on Friday night.
Police said around 8.50 pm, the woman was standing near Library Corner when a white Nissan B15 pulled up. She entered the car, believing it to be a taxi, and asked to be taken to Dow Village, South Oropouche.
When the driver reached the Oropouche roundabout, he turned onto the Shore of Peace roadway instead and continued driving, taking her against her will. He then demanded her belongings, and she handed over her Samsung A05 cellphone and a wallet containing $13.
A struggle followed, during which she was injured but managed to escape by jumping out of the vehicle. She later made a report at the Oropouche Police Station.
On Tuesday, officers went to the Southern Main Road in Dow Village, where the suspect was pointed out and identified by the victim. He was arrested and taken to the Point Fortin Hospital after complaining of pain from previous injuries.
Doctors later transferred him to the San Fernando General Hospital for surgery after diagnosing a blowout fracture to his right eye socket, haemorrhage in the sinus, and soft tissue injuries to the chest, abdomen, and right arm.
Investigations are continuing.
