Mother of one Kristin Paul, 30, was on her way home after collecting her dead husband’s Nissan Frontier when she was shot to death.
It was less than two months ago that she witnessed her husband being chopped to death and she had since moved into an apartment at Mohess Road, Penal.
A close friend of the family explained that on Tuesday, Paul’s former brother-in-law Patrick Boodoo went with Paul to collect her husband’s Nissan Frontier at Clarke Road, Penal.
On their way back, Boodoo drove the Frontier while Paul drove her white Toyota Hilux.
According to the police, around 4 pm, the Frontier experienced mechanical difficulties and both vehicles stopped near Digity Trace.
Paul opted to go to an auto repair shop to get a mechanic. Shortly after, she returned with a mechanic who is a Venezuelan national. Paul then sat in the driver’s seat of the Frontier while Boodoo, the mechanic and another man attempted to repair the van.
However, a white Toyota Axio pulled up and a male occupant wearing a fisher’s hat came out and fired several shots. The men scampered for safety. After the suspect escaped in the Axio, Boodoo found Paul slumped over the front passenger seat, bleeding from several wounds. She died at the scene.
The mechanic, who suffered a gunshot wound to his left thigh, drove Paul’s van to his workplace and was taken for medical treatment.
Paul’s common-law husband Amit Boodoo was chopped to death in front their Jaipaulsingh Trace, Barrackpore home on July 22. A fisherman from Princes Town has since been charged with his murder. The couple has an 11-year-old son.
When Guardian Media visited Boodoo’s relatives in Rousillac and the area where Paul lived in Ramdhanie Trace, no one wanted to comment on the tragedy.
Meanwhile, Barrackpore West councillor Nicholas Kanhai expressed concern about crime in the community.
He said, “Mohess Road is a known bustling area for community and cultural activities. However, over the last few years, it is slowly becoming tainted with crime and criminal activities.”
