A Ch­agua­nas woman was grant­ed bail with sure­ty when she ap­peared be­fore a Mas­ter of the High Court charged with pos­ses­sion of pro­hib­it­ed ar­ti­cles and traf­fick­ing in mar­i­jua­na at the East­ern Cor­rec­tion­al Re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion Cen­tre.

Sasha Mel­ony was charged with the of­fences when she ap­peared be­fore Mas­ter Sookraj Gosa­mi in the Crim­i­nal Court North, on Tues­day 3 De­cem­ber 2024.

She was grant­ed bail with sure­ty in the sum of $100,000 and or­dered to re­port to the Ch­agua­nas Po­lice Sta­tion once per month.

The mat­ter was trans­ferred to the Ari­ma Dis­trict Court and ad­journed to Jan­u­ary 7, 2025.

Re­ports are that on No­vem­ber 27, 2024, prison of­fi­cials at the East­ern Cor­rec­tion­al Re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion Cen­tre dis­cov­ered that a quan­ti­ty of mar­i­jua­na and cig­a­rettes al­leged­ly were smug­gled in­to the fa­cil­i­ty dur­ing a pris­on­er vis­it.

Of­fi­cers of the North­ern Di­vi­sion North Gang Unit were con­tact­ed, and three per­sons were ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the mat­ter.

Their in­ves­ti­ga­tions led po­lice of­fi­cers to the Ch­agua­nas home of one of the sus­pects. There, they dis­cov­ered sev­er­al drones, a quan­ti­ty of drone ac­ces­sories and drone bat­ter­ies, which en­abled the de­vices to car­ry pay­loads.

Mel­ony was sub­se­quent­ly charged with the of­fences by PC Paul.

The oth­er two sus­pects were re­leased pend­ing fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tions.

Mean­while, in the North-East­ern Di­vi­sion, of­fi­cers of the Gang and In­tel­li­gence Unit con­duct­ed an ex­er­cise yes­ter­day (De­cem­ber 3, 2024), be­tween 1:30 pm and 3 pm, dur­ing which they pro­ceed­ed to the San­ta Cruz dis­trict.

There, they ob­served a group of men sit­ting along Mc Carthy Street.

One of the men was stopped and searched. The of­fi­cers dis­cov­ered that he had in his pos­ses­sion one Glock pis­tol loaded with a mag­a­zine con­tain­ing 15 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion, as well a sec­ond mag­a­zine con­tain­ing 23 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion.

The 24-year-old sus­pect, who is from San Juan, was ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the find.
