National goal shoot Samantha Wallace shot 100 per cent from the field as Hertfordshire Mavericks maintained their unbeaten start to the Vitality Netball Super League with a 62-45 victory over Team Northumbria at Sports Central Arena, Newcastle, England, on Monday night.
The 22-year-old 6' 4" Wallace, who was coming off 38/41 and 11/14 shooting performances in her team's first two wins over Celtic Dragons and Loughborough Lightning respectively, converted on all of her 15 attempts during the first two quarters for the winners, who made a worthwhile 250-mile trip up north to make it three wins out of three for maximum nine points.
Early on, it looked as though the Toco-born Wallace and her Mavericks team-mates would be in for long night as the host stormed into an early lead, before the T&T import handed her team its first lead of the match at 13-12 after which it never trailed.
But troubled by a right knee injury, coach Sam Bird opted to rest Wallace for the second-half with the three other shooters, Sophie Hankin, Georgina Fisher and Louisa Watson picking up the slack.
Goal defence Sam May was voted player of the match for some fantastic defensive work alongside Lindsay Keable and Summer Artman throughout the game and after the match she said: "Three games on the trot is the best possible start. I'm glad we pushed through in the end."
Second on the table are Manchester Thunder and Team Bath, both with 2-0 records followed by Loughborough Lightning and defending champions Surrey Storm each with 1-1 marks.
Celtic Dragons and Yorkshie Jets are next at 0-2 while Team Northumbria is bottom of the eight-team table at 0-3.
Next up for Wallace, T&T's standout player at last year's 14th Netball World Cup in Sydney, Australia and the Mavericks is an away clash with the Jets on February 20 at Leeds Beckett University.
This will be followed by two top-of-the-table duels, first with Manchester Thunder on February 27 at Hertfordshire Sports Village, and two days later away to Team Bath at the University of Bath Sports Village.
