Presentation College was crowned champion in the South Zone of the Coca-Cola Intercol tournament after a 1-0 victory over St Benedict’s College at the Mahaica Sporting Complex in Point Fortin, yesterday.
A solitary item from Adah Barclay in the 21st minute did it for the San Fernando team, despite desperate efforts by the La Romain Lions to equalise.
The win has now put them on a collision course with Arima North Secondary, who on Wednesday got the edge over San Juan North Secondary after a marathon 15-14 penalty shootout in the East Zone finals at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar, Arima.
Presentation College and Arima will square off on Thursday at the Mahaica Sporting Complex from 4 pm.
Meanwhile, Andre Benjamin, a representative of Presentation College, told Guardian Media Sports that was a wonderful feeling to have won the South title again, having won it in 2019. Fatima defeated St Benedict’s College for the 2022 National title.
Benjamin said the win has been dedicated to all of the Presentation, present, and past students, as the school is in the midst of celebrating its 75th anniversary.
He said it would be really good if the team can go all the way and win the national title.
