Scores of boxers, coaches, and other administrators were honoured when the T&T Boxing Association celebrated the IBA International Boxing Day on August 27 at the Cosmic Boxing Gym, Battoo Avenue, Marabella.
For their contribution to the sport, either in or out of the boxing ring, certificates of appreciation were given out following a luncheon and gathering of the stakeholders.
Boxers Tianna Guy, a silver medallist at the recent Pan American Boxing Qualifiers in Cali, Colombia led the list of elite boxers to have been given certificates of appreciation. The others include Aaron Prince, the 2020 Olympic Games qualifier who also won a silver medal at the IBA Golden Belt Series; Angel Eyed George, bronze medallist at the Continental Championship in Cali, Columbia; Ortega Jukhu, a bronze medal winner at the Continental Championship; and emerging boxer Prince Charles who proved himself at the Schoolboys and Girls Championships before making his way to the elite team where he claimed a bronze medal at the Continental Championship.
Coach and manager Reynold Cox, who has been credited for guiding the T&T team to five qualifying spots at the Pan Am Qualifiers last month, was also joined by James Beckles, Merrill Simon, Deopersad Ramoutar, Vicki Boodram, Jason Aqui, Codrington Joefield, Rawlson Dopwell, Anthony Waterman, Duane Mitchell, Brian Bowman and former boxer now turn coach Wendell Jukhu.
