Twin brothers Ahkeel "Smally" Boyd and Ahkeem "Fatto" Boyd were unstoppable as they led Maloney Pacers to a 97-88 victory over Caledonia Clippers when action continued in the Big Basketball League on Friday night.
The teams met in the second match of a double-header at the Maloney Indoor Sports Arena and the duo dominated proceedings from the jump ball to help Pacers remain unbeaten after five matches in the 10-team competition.
Shooting guard Smally was once again his side's best player as he lit up the basket with a match-high 34 points which included four three-pointers. Another player in great form was fellow shooting guard and brother Fatto, who put up 20 points, also netting four from beyond the three-pint arc.
They got good support from Ronaldo Palmer with 11 as Pacers led at the end of each quarter, 29-21 in the first, 57-42 at halftime and in the third, 75-59.
Clippers, who was down by atleast 20 points in the fourth and final period, made a run in the final five minutes of the match and came within eight but the veterans could not get the win.
Leading the way for Clippers was Kurt "Kotto" Christian with produced a team-high 26 points. He was aided by Steven "Lighter" Lewis, Orlando Mapp and Gerald Toney, who each netted 11.
In the opening match of the night, Defence Force's misery continued in the league as they were soundly beaten by Straker Nets, 93-57.
Jerrel Doorbal topscored with 15 points and his fellow post player Chike Augustine netted 14 in the lopsided affair which saw Straker hold the advantage in each quarter, respectively – 34-19, 53-37, 74-45 – before sealing the huge 36-point victory. Straker now improve its record to 5-1.
For the army/coast guard combination team, Ian Carter led with 14 and Devon Waddle added 12 in a losing effort.
