Queen's Park batsman Darren Bravo.

Out-of-favour West Indies middle-order batsman Darren Bravo scored an authoritative hundred in his return to top-flight cricket with Queen's Park against Merryboys at the Queens Park Oval on Saturday.

Bravo played with his boyhood club Santa Cruz in the North Zone last year and has now made his way back to Premiership cricket.

The former Red Force captain slammed 117 as the Tragerete road team scored 355 for 5 declared to seize control over a Merryboys team without last year's captain/coach Mario Belcon, who is now with the promoted Yorkshire.

In addition to Bravo, Isaiah ‘Big Raj’ Rajah, who narrowly missed out on a Red Force selection in the ongoing Cricket West Indies Regional First Class Championship, top scored with 143.

Merryboys were not so merry at the close of play as they were 36 for 5 at stumps.

Meanwhile, Clevon Khelawan's unbeaten 43 laid the foundation for Clarke Road to have the upper hand at home against Victoria on day one of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board Premier League Division 1, yesterday.

Nicholas Sookdeosingh’s homecoming from police was not to plan as the attacking southpaw scored only 10 before he was bowled for 10. Kyle Hope, the former West Indies cricketer and brother of West Indies One Day captain Shai Hope, made 27 at the top of the order, and Shatrughan Rambaran, who missed out on a Red Force selection, scored an important 29 to stabilise the top order.

There were other contributions from Anderson Mahase and Tarique Mohammed with 26 and 21, respectively, but Clarke Road was reduced to 117 for five when Khalawan went out to the middle.

The left-hander hit only two fours in his knock, the usually aggressive attacking southpaw batting with care as he guided the home team to 187 all out in 63.2 overs.

Damion Joachim, now playing with the team he helped decimate for 23 last year, was their best bowler with 4 for 81. Victoria closed on 70 for 2 in 31 overs.
