Brechin Castle wins golf challenge

T&T golfers com­pet­ed in the 7th an­nu­al Whan Tong Agen­cies & Delta spon­sored T&T clubs team cham­pi­onship on Sat­ur­day at the St An­drews Golf Course, Mo­ka, Mar­aval.

The com­pe­ti­tion is unique in its for­mat in that the Golf Clubs must nom­i­nate 10 golfers from all cat­e­gories of golfers. Each team must in­clude at least two from nine hand­i­caps and be­low, two from 10-16 hand­i­cap, two from 17-24 hand­i­cap, two from 25 -36 hand­i­cap and at least one woman and one ju­nior. The eight best Sta­ble­ford scores from each team were added to­geth­er to ar­rive at the win­ner.

Teams from Brechin Cas­tle, Cha­gara­mus, Lee­wards, Mil­len­ni­um Lakes, Pointe-a-Pierre, Usine St Madeleine and St An­drews golf club all par­tic­i­pat­ed and as usu­al to en­gen­der the team spir­it the spon­sors out­fit­ted each team with its own coloured po­lo shirts.

The tour­na­ment was played un­der blue skies and sun­light on a well-man­i­cured golf course, and home course knowl­edge did not prove the de­ci­sive fac­tor this year as Brechin Cas­tle fin­ished with 245 points to place first. Mil­len­ni­um Lakes to­talled 236 points to se­cure sec­ond place, Ch­aguara­mas fin­ished third with 228 and Lee­wards G.C from To­ba­go came in fourth be­hind 226 points with de­fend­ing cham­pi­ons Pointe-a-Pierre fol­lowed in fifth af­ter man­ag­ing 223 points. The host St An­drews end­ed sixth with 205 points while new­com­ers Usine St Madeleine had to set­tle for the sev­enth po­si­tion with its 188 points.

The in­di­vid­ual win­ner was Car­los Beck­les from The Lee­wards club who had 36 Sta­ble­ford points, while the best ju­nior was Yeji Lee on 34 points win­ning on a count­back from Chris Richards Jnr.

The spon­sors Whan Tong Agen­cies and Delta gave out prizes to each one of the 10 mem­bers of the first placed team Brechin Cas­tle and an­oth­er 10 great prizes to the sec­ond placed team Mil­len­ni­um Lakes.

The TTGA Pres­i­dent thanked the spon­sors Whan Tong Agen­cies and Delta for their con­tin­ued spon­sor­ship and in­di­cat­ed that as the tour­na­ment moves around from club to the club next year 2019 ver­sion will hope­ful­ly be held in To­ba­go.
