National cyclist Kwesi Browne made a triumphant return to track cycling when he won the Men’s Elite keirin on the second day of the UCI Class II Easter International Grand Prix Cycling at the Arima Velodrome on Saturday night.
Last August 10, 31-year-old Browne suffered a nasty crash in his six-lap repechage heat in the men’s keirin event at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines Velodrome at the 2024 Paris Olympics, which ended his medal hopes — effectively ending his quarterfinal hopes in the event.
Since then, the T&T cyclist had been on the mend and was expected to participate in the recent Luces Brothers Memorial Cycling Classic at Skinner Park but was a no-show.
However, on Saturday night, when competition shifted from Friday’s opening night at the Ian Atherly Track, Skinner Park, in San Fernando to Arima, Browne of Madonna Wheelers made a winning return by taking top spot in the keirin ahead of fellow T&T cyclists Danell James and Ryan D’Abreau, a member of the T&T senior men’s sprint team along with Nicholas Paul and Njisane Phillip, which won Team Sprint gold at the Pan American Track Championships in Asuncion, Paraguay, recently.
