Carrington tops 200m backstroke Pro Swim Series C-final

T&T’s Liam Car­ring­ton con­tin­ued his prepa­ra­tions for the up­com­ing Carif­ta Swim­ming Cham­pi­onships to be host­ed here in T&T from April 19 to 22 with a busy week­end of com­pe­ti­tion at the TYR Pro Swim Se­ries at the FMC Nata­to­ri­um in West­mont, Illi­nois, USA.

A mem­ber of the Bolles High School, Car­ring­ton capped off com­pet­ing in five events by top­ping the men’s 100m back­stroke C-Fi­nal in 57.91 sec­onds swim­ming from lane six with team­mate Xavier So­hovich sec­ond to the wall in 58.75 fol­lowed by Velizar Fil­ipov in 58.95.

Ear­li­er on in the heats, Car­ring­ton was eighth in heat three of four in one minute, 00.16 sec­onds for the 23rd fastest time in the field of 25 swim­mers.

Car­ring­ton al­so con­test­ed the 200m back­stroke C-Fi­nal, but had to set­tle for the run­ner-up spot this time around in two min­utes, 09.91 sec­onds, to fin­ish be­hind an­oth­er of his school­mates, Sascha Macht, who won in two min­utes, 06.27 sec­onds.

This was af­ter Car­ring­ton touched the wall in two min­utes, 10.15 sec­onds for the 19th fastest qual­i­fy­ing time in the heats.

A mul­ti­ple-gold medal win­ner for T&T at var­i­ous age-groups at pre­vi­ous Carif­ta meets, Car­ring­ton al­so se­cured a spot in the 200m in­di­vid­ual med­ley C-Fi­nal when he got to the wall in two min­utes, 20.08 sec­onds for the 22nd best time, how­ev­er he opt­ed out of the fi­nal.

The T&T swim­mer al­so con­test­ed the 100m freestyle was sev­enth in heat three of five af­ter he clocked 52.61 sec­onds for 26th best over­all while in the 200m freestyle he was fifth in heat two of six for the 36th po­si­tion over­all with a time of one minute, 56.46 sec­onds.
