T&T’s Liam Carrington continued his preparations for the upcoming Carifta Swimming Championships to be hosted here in T&T from April 19 to 22 with a busy weekend of competition at the TYR Pro Swim Series at the FMC Natatorium in Westmont, Illinois, USA.
A member of the Bolles High School, Carrington capped off competing in five events by topping the men’s 100m backstroke C-Final in 57.91 seconds swimming from lane six with teammate Xavier Sohovich second to the wall in 58.75 followed by Velizar Filipov in 58.95.
Earlier on in the heats, Carrington was eighth in heat three of four in one minute, 00.16 seconds for the 23rd fastest time in the field of 25 swimmers.
Carrington also contested the 200m backstroke C-Final, but had to settle for the runner-up spot this time around in two minutes, 09.91 seconds, to finish behind another of his schoolmates, Sascha Macht, who won in two minutes, 06.27 seconds.
This was after Carrington touched the wall in two minutes, 10.15 seconds for the 19th fastest qualifying time in the heats.
A multiple-gold medal winner for T&T at various age-groups at previous Carifta meets, Carrington also secured a spot in the 200m individual medley C-Final when he got to the wall in two minutes, 20.08 seconds for the 22nd best time, however he opted out of the final.
The T&T swimmer also contested the 100m freestyle was seventh in heat three of five after he clocked 52.61 seconds for 26th best overall while in the 200m freestyle he was fifth in heat two of six for the 36th position overall with a time of one minute, 56.46 seconds.
