Swimmer Dylan Carter just missed out on a place in the final of the men’s 50-metre butterfly Saturday (October 11), as action continued at the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Following his tenth-place finishes in both the 50m backstroke and 100m freestyle events the previous day, Carter touched the wall fourth in his heat with a time of 22.85 seconds, narrowly missing automatic qualification.
The top three finishers in that heat, eventual winner Grigori Pekarski of Belarus (22.47), along with Russia’s Egor Iurchenko (22.57) and Oleg Kostin (22.62), all secured spots in the final.
However, Carter, who competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in the 100 metre freestyle, earned a second chance at a qualifying spot via a swim-off with Russia’s Andrei Minakov.
In the swim-off, the 30-year-old T&T swimmer came up just short once again, touching the wall in 22.68 seconds off a 0.62-second reaction time.
Minakov clinched the final spot by posting a quick 22.58 seconds.
