Central Sports leg-spinner Imran Khan again addressed the national selectors again on Sunday, as he bowled brilliantly to take seven wickets as his team claimed first innings points over Preysal in T&T Cricket Board Premiership Division One action at Inshan Ali Park, Preysal.
Khan followed his 7/27 against Alescon Comets last week with another brilliant display as he triggered a Preysal collapse that saw their last eight wickets falling for just 55 runs.
Central Sports made just 128 on day one and yesterday resumed on 54-2 with Mark Deyal and Mbeki Joseph at the crease. However, Khan, using his tremendous guile to good effect, was able to pluck 7/38 as the home team was skittled out for just 109 runs.
Batting a second time, Central Sports were handily placed at 128 for one before they themselves suffered a slide to end on 251-9 declared and the match ended in a draw.
In another match, PowerGen won their second successive game as they got the better of Alescon Comets by an innings and 13 runs.
Responding to Comets’ first innings score of 147, PowerGen made 315-5 declared with Cephas Cooper hitting 134 and Steven Katwaroo 57 not out. Batting a second time, Comets were undone by the PowerGen spinners, with Kavesh Kantasingh grabbing 4/60, Ancil Bhaggan 3/43 and Dave Mohammed 3/19. Kantasingh ended a great match with figures of 10/132.
The only batsman to show resistance for Comets was Sanjay Jawahir who made 52 not out. The Charlieville outfit, who finished second last year, has now lost both their matches this season.
At Wilson Road, Queen’s Park CC II avoided the agony of a second loss after battling well to ensure a draw against Clarke Road.
After Clarke Road amassed a massive 410-4 declared thanks to 113 from Barbadian Kyle Hope, 86 from Keddy Lesporis, 67 from DeJorn Charles and an unbeaten 53 from Clevon Kalawan, QPCC II were bowled out for 178. QPCC skipper Jonathan Augustus made 51 as left-arm spinner Akeal Mollon took 5/52.
Sent to follow-on, QPCC II ended on 61 without loss for the draw.
Emmanuel Lett and Kerron Kanhai meanwhile frustrated Queen’s Park CC I at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of-Spain, as they were able to prevent Victoria from going under to the Parkites.
Replying to QPCC I’s 351-9 declared, Victoria made 164 all out with Jon Russ Jaggessar taking 5/25.
Following-on, Lett, who made 40 in the first innings, feel six runs short of a century and Kanhai was unbeaten on 52 as Victoria batted well to reach 265-9 at the close to ensure the draw. Mystery spinner Sunil Narine continued his comeback by taking 4/53.
