Former national swimmers, sisters Dr. Ayeisha Collymore and Kimba Collymore, as well as Donna-Marie Wickham, are among the 61 swimmers who will don the red, white, and black colours in the swimming segment of the ninth edition of the Pan American Aquatics Masters Championships, which splashes off at the National Aquatic Centre in Balmain Couva.
The trio were all former multiple champions across the Carifta Games and the Central American and Caribbean Swimming Federation and will be hoping to turn back the clock to their former glory days at the Championships, which began yesterday with the artistic swimming competition.
Other notable members of the T&T contingent that will look to dominate the age groups (18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, and 90-94) are former Parliamentarian Glenn Ramadharsingh, Danielle Cosier, Malik Nelson, Anton Gopaulsingh, Mosi Denoon, Christopher George, and Marquise Nelson.
The swimming segment will take place daily from 10 am to noon until Wednesday, July 24, followed by the open water event on Friday, July 26 at Five Islands, Chaguaramas, from 9 am.
In addition to the individual events, relay events will be based on the total age of team members as of December 31, 2024, inclusive. 80-99, 100-119, 120-159, 160-199, 200-239, 240-279, 280-319, 320-359, and 40-year increments as high as necessary.
In addition to the T&T, the other participating countries to be represented by 339 athletes are Brazil, Chile, Mexico, France, Canada, the USA, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Peru, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Grenada, Uruguay, Guyana, Colombia, Argentina, Venezuela, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, and Australia.
Speaking ahead of the competition, Lyndsay Gillette, President of the Aquatics Sports Association of T&T (ASATT), stated that it was with immense pride and boundless enthusiasm that his association welcomed all participants.
