Liam D’Abadie won the 18th annual Rainbow Cup Sprint Triathlon title at Turtle Beach Heritage Park, Black Rock, Tobago, yesterday.

This after the 16-year-old won a sprint to the finish line of the 750-metre swim/20k cycle/5k run with 17-year-old Jacob Cox to win in one hour, nine minutes and 29 seconds, just three seconds ahead of Cox (1:09.32), while Noah Teixeira was a distant third in 1:14:31, with 40-year-old Marlon Scott (1:17.26) and Trevor Burkett, 17, (1:18.21) completing the top five spots, respectively.

The win was the second on the trot for D’Abadie who won the inaugural Rainbow Cup Sprint Triathlon held in Grenada in April ahead of Teixeira.

Defending champion Jason Costelloe who won last year’s event (1.5K swim, 40K bike and 10K run)—to follow up on the sprint triathlon crown he won in 2022, was a non-starter.

Among the sponsors for the event were the Tobago House of Assembly’s (THA) Division of Community Development, Youth Development and Sport and M&M Insurance Broking Services.
