Title-holder Defence Force and Terminix La Horquetta Rangers will continue their quest for the 2022 title in the ten-club Ascension Football League when Round 11 matches kick off with a double-header at the Phase II Recreation Ground in La Horquetta from 6 pm on Friday.
Currently, Rangers and Defence Force both have 26 points from ten matches at the top of the table, however, the former enjoys the slimmest of leads by virtue of a superior goal-difference of plus-29 to the army/coast-guard combination's plus-28 with both teams yet to taste defeat.
Tonight, though, the Defence Force will need to be at their best as they face a vastly improved Deportivo Point Fortin (PF), who occupies fourth spot with 20 points, one behind the third-placed Police FC after one of two teams to take points off of the "Teteron Men" so far this season, in a 1-1 draw back on April 8.
Rangers, meanwhile, will be confident of securing three points against Moruga FC, whom they hammered 11-2 in their first meeting this season.
Tomorrow at the Arima Municipal Stadium, Arima, a double-header is also on schedule with Real West Fort United coming against Central FC from 5 pm followed two hours later, by Central Soccer World and AC Port-of-Spain while on Sunday at the Police Training Barracks Ground in St James, from 5 pm, the Lawmen entertains a slumping Cunupia FC.
The ten clubs are competing in two rounds of football on 18 match days for a winners prize of $100,000, with second place getting $50,000, and third $25,000.
The tournament was first played in 2019, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the competition was not held in 2020 and 2021, with this year’s competition being staged with a budget of $3.5 million, with $175,000 in prize money.
