Jordane Dookie was the lone local player to win in the singles when the Boys and Girls Division of the International Tennis Federation J60 Under-18 Tournament continued at the National Racquet Centre in Tacarigua, Tuesday.
Dookie who won two titles last month in the Sunshine Snacks Tranquillity Open was a 7-5, 3-1 retired winner over Canada’s Sienna Miles and will next face the winner of the round-of-16 clash between USA’s Sophia Budacsek and Great Britain’s Anya Taylor while T&T’s other entrant among the girls was carded for a late encounter against top-ranked Kayla Brianne Moore of the USA.
However, in the Boy’s main draw, T&T’s Kale Dalla Costa and Zachery Byng were both defeated in straight sets in their round-of-16 duels.
Dalla Costa was ousted by USA’s Navneet Raghuram 0-6, 2-6 and Byng came up short against Brazilian Max Kirmayr 5-7, 2-6.
In other matches, USA’s Lev Seidman blanked Brazil’s Joao Marcos Angelico 6-0, 6-0; Aruba’s Hugo Fidler defeated USA’s Anthony Abbott 6-1, 6-4
On Monday night, T&T’s Jordell Chapman was beaten by Turkey’s Samim Filiz 1-6, 0-6 in a late round-of-32 match while qualifier Ross Johnson battled past Holland’s Laurence Teunissen 2-6, 7-5, 7-6(4) and Curacao’s Ricardo Winkel outclassed USA’s Dhruv Anantaraman 6-2, 7-6(6).
And in the girls, Miles whipped USA’s Aqeela Malik 6-1, 6-2. The tournament continues weather permitting from 9 am Wednesday.
