Dookie springs into J60 doubles in Santo Domingo

Jor­dane Dook­ie, T&T's ris­ing ten­nis queen, will head in­to ac­tion again Tues­day at the J60 San­to Domin­go of the World Ju­nior Ten­nis Tour in the Do­mini­can Re­pub­lic.

She will com­pete in the Un­der-18 girls dou­bles play-offs with the tour­na­ment's fifth-ranked play­er Olivia Cela of Poland up against the Do­mini­can Re­pub­lic pair of L Gabin Is­mel­da and L Mendez Mance­bo in the round of two. Both pairs of play­ers got byes in the first round, but a win for ei­ther will earn them a place in­to the quar­ter­fi­nals against the sec­ond-ranked Sophia Ce­de­no and Alden Rus­sell of the Unit­ed States.

Last week, Dook­ie went down to the USA's Yael Saf­far in the sin­gles com­pe­ti­tion in the round of 16s at a J60 tour­na­ment and she told Guardian Me­dia Sports she is ex­pect­ing bet­ter this time around due to the ex­pe­ri­ence she would have gar­nered.

In 2022, Dook­ie climbed the ITF rank­ing with a quar­ter­fi­nal fin­ish that saw her move from num­ber 2,304, go­ing in­to the three-leg In­ter­na­tion­al Ten­nis Fed­er­a­tion Ju­nior Cir­cuit at the Na­tion­al Rac­quet Cen­tre in Tacarigua, to 1,297th at the end.

Al­so in­to the sec­ond round, is the pair of N Guer­rero Cas­tane­da, the top-ranked play­er in the tour­na­ment from Mex­i­co who will be team­ing up with Je­le­na Vi­co of Cana­da com­ing up against ei­ther the team of Em­ma Jochnick and Na-Hyun Baek or D Calderon and M Var­gas Romero; as well as the com­bi­na­tions of Al­i­ca Glaser/Sa­fi­na Sam­baly; Luiza Ei­delvein/N Da Sil­va Chu­lak; Michelle Lau­ra Damm/Karoli­na Lin­cer; and Mi­ran­da Bosch and Sire­na Singh, among many oth­ers.
