Goal-attack Nikeisha Gomes did the bulk of the shooting for Laventille United and led the scoring with 30 goals from 39 attempts to see her team to victory in the Republic Bank Laventille Netball League on Saturday evening.
Gomes’ effort helped the Laventille unit defeat TT Post 52-32 in their A Division match-up at the Nelson Mandela Park in St Clair, Port-of-Spain. She did well to boost her goal-shooter veteran and former national player Sojourner Hyles, who poured 22 from 36 tries. The pair had Laventille United ahead at the end of each quarter, 12-9 in the first, 22-15 at the half and 37-22 in the third before sealing the 20-goal victory.
Dionne Jones (8/14) and Jocelyn Marcelle (9/13) opened in the shooting circle for TT Post. Later, Crystal Jones entered as the goal-shooter and added 15 from 24 but it was not enough to overcome the huge deficit.
In the other A Division match, goal-shooter Kaliyah Cooper came good once again for the Police Youth Club (PYC) and led them to a narrow 39-34 win over Southern Netball Academy (SNA).
Cooper connected on 33 goals from 40 attempts as PYC held the advantage at the end of each quarter - 8-6, 20-15 and 27-26 respectively.
In the final quarter, SNA tried to rally back mainly through goal-shooter Shaniya Morgan with 26 in 28. However, it was not to be as SNA were outscored 12-8 in the fourth period and went under by five goals.
Former senior national captain Anika La Roche also featured in the PYC win, netting four of seven.
In the lone Inters Division match, Reeka Seerattan scored 23 goals from 30 attempts at Transcend easily beat Central Bank 33-7.
