Champion trainer John O’Brien sent out two of his older Stewards Cup aspirants, Hello World and The Goddess Nike, over 600 metres last Sunday (November 23)at Santa Rosa Park in Arima. They recorded the morning’s fastest time of 36.47 seconds for the trip.
Hello World, the Gold Cup champion who also won the Barbados Tanglewood Stakes, showed he still possesses excellent speed. He and The Goddess Nike sped from the 600m marker to the finish line, travelling well throughout and quickening impressively in the final 300m. Both horses are expected to go close come Saturday in the Stewards Cup.
The Triple Crown winner, Headliner, confirmed his good form and well-being with a handy gallop over 1,000m, clocking 1:08.26. The unbeaten colt simply cruised home and is in great order. Owner Diane Scott must be a very happy woman.
The undefeated Headliner will put his reputation on the line against last year’s winner and current favourite, Sneaky Cheeky. She travelled superbly over 600m, cruising in a time of 37.78 seconds. She looks extremely well and could go very close in the 1,200m Stewards Cup on Arima Race Club (ARC) Day 11 racing programme.
Showtime and El Chico Malo worked extremely well over 1,000m in the good time of 1:04.39. El Chico Malo, whose trainer Jonathan Lyder, was prepping for the Stewards Cup looked well in the final 300m but she will not race in the Stewards Cup.
Some trainers sent out their two-year-olds for gallops over 400m. These included Daring Move and Just My Konkees, who went fast over the distance in a time of 24.95 seconds. Both looked well and should be watched closely when they debut.
The Michael Lutchman-trained Valiante galloped alone over 600m and recorded the time of 38.47 seconds. He looked very well and is in great form for Saturday. Juveniles Power House and Stock Broker also galloped well over 600m in 38.40 seconds. Power House is set to be mounted by former champion jockey Brian Boodramsingh.
