Some 675 athletes from 48 athletic clubs and schools across the country are registered to compete at this year's National Association of Athletics Administration of T&T (NAAATT) National Juvenile Track and Field Championships at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, Port-of-Spain today and tomorrow.
The youngsters will compete in 52 events in the Under-9, U-11 and U-13 age divisions.
Leading the way are the top athletes from the National Primary Schools Champs on May 28-Gloria Henry and Jeremiah Hector.
Henry won the girls' U-13 400 metres, long jump and high jump events representing Signal Hill Government while Hector of Scarborough RC was victorious in the boys' U-13 high and long jumps and second in the 400m.
Two weeks ago, Henry and Hector copped the girls' and boys' U-13 pentathlon titles, respectively.
At last year's Juvenile Championships, Henry secured triple gold in the girls' U-13 high jump, 400m and 300m hurdles. She missed on a fourth gold taking silver in the 60m hurdles.
The versatile athlete led her club Rising Super Stars (Rss) Phoenix to a third straight overall title last year with 663.5 points ahead of Cougars (438), Zenith (396), Burnley (293.5), Lambeau Alliance (156), Memphis Pioneers (153), Simplex (123) and Mercury (122).
Gloria's sister Chloe will be in action along with Daniel Roberts, Keyon Bournes and Uri Grandison.
Hector will head Zenith's charge joining recently-crowned national girls' U-9 triathlon winner D'Mya Williams and U-11 tetrathlon gold medallists Kalia Agard and Kenai Reid.
Cougars will rely on Zion and Naomi Phillp (not relation) as well as Shae Benjamin.
Destiny Arnold and Zamel Woodroffe are the top Burnley competitors to watch.
Azziron Williams is expected to be in the Lambeau Alliance team.
Destiny Guevera (Abilene Wildcats), Aiden Beard (IG Fastlane), Bert Melville (Mason Hall Police Youth), Bella Rodriguez (Cheetahs), Samyiah Stroude (Concorde), Antoniya Taylor (Princess Town Achievers) and Malique Roberts(Memphis Pioneers) are among the athletes set to shine.
The first event is scheduled to begin at 10 am.
