Shameka Hoyte of club Vapour Wake Multi-Sport, on Sunday, added to the National Time Trial title she won two weeks ago by winning the National Road Race Championships in the Tinymites division for females at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba.
She was among just three competitors in her division, with the others being Naomi Garcia (Unattached) and Tehilla Chapman (Tobago Elite Cycling Club). However, she did not disappoint in the four-lap event, having entered as the overwhelming favourite.
In 2019, Hoyte clinched the national title for Tinymites and Youth Developers at the Irwin Park Sports Complex in Siparia, only months after the club was formed, and she later followed up that achievement with numerous national titles years later.
Kafele Desormeaux of Arima Wheelers was also in winners row for the national crown in the Tinymites Male category on Sunday. She disposed of a large field that included Cristian Nelson, the winner of the time trial event, Elijah James of Hummingbird International Cycling Club and the Rigtech Sonics pair of Maurice Lopez and Nikhyl Leotaud, among other riders.
Desormeaux’s teammate Zion Lucas claimed the runner-up position and Nelson stormed home for a credible third, while the trio of Andre Samnuel (Hummingbird Int’l Club), Darius Chapman (Tobago Elite Cycling Club) and Lopez secured fourth, fifth and sixth positions respectively.
Later, in the Juveniles division which required riders to complete 12 laps of the circuit, ended with the pair of Makaira Wallace (Unattached) and Syndel Samaroo (PSL CC) being crowned champions for female and males respectively.
Wallace got the better of Kyra Williams (Vapour Wake Multi-Sport), Isis Gaskin (Raiders Cycling and Multisport) and Ashleigh Thomas (Raiders Cycle and Multi Sport) for her title, while Samaroo took the male equivalent ahead of Jalani Nedd, Danell James and company.
Meanwhile, in the masters category, Rowan Colin Wilson took the 40-49 age bracket win and Roger Simon, the winner of the time trial event two weeks ago, added the masters 50-59 road championships title to his cabinet.
And in the masters 60-plus category, Ronald Crooks sealed the win and the national title, despite a competitive field.
