TORONTO—Outstanding Barbadian rider Patrick Husbands produced a stalking ride aboard favourite Fashionably Fab to clinch the feature CAN$100,000 La Prevoyante Stakes at Woodbine.
The 50-year-old bided his time aboard the three-year-old dark bay filly before exploding in the stretch to storm to the wire 2-½ lengths clear in a time of one minute, 45.60, to get the better of the three-year-old and upward fillies and mares.
Eight-to-one choice Talk To ya Later trailed in second while 5-1 bet Tito’s Calling was a close third.
The victory was the fourth straight added-money success for the Kevin Attard-trained filly.
“She’s relaxing off the bat. She’s the type of horse that likes to be in the race, no fooling around,” Husbands explained.
“She showed me by the three-quarter pole, ‘I can relax’. She showed that she was the best today.”
Going a mile and sixteenth in Saturday’s feature, Fashionably Fab’s stablemate Strega streaked by her in the opening steps to set the pace through fractions of 25.37 for the quarter and 50.52 for the half.
Tito’s Calling raced down on the inside just a length off Fashionably Fab while Talk To ya Later sat in fourth and 14-1 outsider My Girl Sky last.
Approaching the final turn, Husbands quickened Fashionably Fab and she had the lead entering the stretch with Strega already weakening.
Fashionably Fab then drew off impressively leaving the field battling for the runners-up places. (CMC)
