Soca Warriors captain Joevin Jones has made a return to domestic foot eight years after playing for W Connection in the defunct T&T Pro League, while national youth team winger Real Gill is also on the move in the T&T Premier Football League.

This after the 31-year-old Carenage-born Jones was confirmed as having joined T&T Police FC, the club of his father Kelvin Jones, a former national defender himself, employers while Gill has made the shock move from Terminix La Horquetta Rangers to Tiger Tanks Club Sando.

Jones began his club career with W Connection in 2014 and then moved to Finland’s Helsinki on loan from September to December and helped the club to the title before he was signed by US Major League Soccer club, Chicago Fire in January 2015.

His spell with the Fire was short-lived as then moved to Seattle Sounders and enjoyed a very successful two seasons winning the MLS Cup in the 2015/2016 season before a lack of playing time saw him make the move back to Europe, but his first in Germany and Bundesliga Second club Darmstadt in January 2018, only to return to Seattle in May 2019 until 2021 when his contract was not renewed, but not before he lifted a second MLS Cup in 2018/2019 campaign.

Jones then signed with US Major Soccer’s Inter Miami in 2021, but after a positive start his time was blighted by injuries, and at the end of his contract last January, he was released.

Since then, the T&T player has been without a club, and with an eye on maintaining his spot on the Angus Eve-coached T&T team he has opted to join Police on a short-term basis.

The move by Port-of-Spain-born Gill from Rangers comes as a big surprise to many with the former Trendsetter Hawks prodigy of Anthony “Dadda” Wickham only moving to the Richard Ferguson-own East-based club just over a year ago.

Blessed with natural talent and pace, the 20-year-old Gill came to light during the Ascension Football Tournament last year to help Rangers to the title, but this season he has been plagued by a niggling ankle injury, however, once fit, he should provide a major boost to the Cornell Glen-coached Club Sando, where he will link up with national Under-20 teammate, Nathaniel James the leading scorer in the T&TPFL with 13 goals, and national utility player, Alvin Jones, the younger brother of Joevin, who joined the club over a month ago.
