Newcomers to the National Pool League (NPL), the Nubian Kings edged the Titans three games to two when they met on Wednesday in round two of the NPL 8 Ball Premier Division at Golden Arches II in Curepe.

The Kings were playing away from home and did well to come away with a win against a strong Titans team. Lawrencio Elliott aka Rincy, the visiting captain, was drawn to play first and got his team off to a good start by defeating Stephen Irving 3-2. Irving stole the first frame but Elliott bounced back to even things up at one with both frames coming down to the black ball. Elliot went up two games to one but Irving won frame four to force a decider, which ‘Rincy’ won comfortably, Kings 1; Titans 0.

Joshwin Roberts was next up for the Kings, his opponent was Vishaal Singh. Again, the two players split the first two frames with Singh winning the first and Roberts the second. That, however, was Roberts only success as Singh took the next two frames for a three to one win. Kings 1; Titans 1.

The doubles encounter followed with Kings’ Sham Jagerssar and Bladimir Cedeno coming up against Titans’ Adrian Mangaroo and Reagan Low Chew Tung. The first frame, a black ball frame, went the way of the hosts’ Mangaroo and Low Chew Tung, unfortunately, the pair could not build on the positive start and Jagerssar and Cedeno won three straight to give the Kings the lead. Kings 2; Titans 1

Martin Davis, returning to the Billiards circuit after several years, could not replicate his performance of Round 1 where he won three frames on the trot. This time, he met a much tougher opponent in Clint Bachan, who gave him no chance whatsoever, winning in three frames. Kings 2; Titans 2.

It was left up to the Titans captain, Ravy Joseph, to seal the win for the hosts against Decklon Ashton and on paper he should have but Ashton apparently never got the memo. Ashton won the first frame, Joseph the second, Ashton went up 2-1 and the fourth frame came down to the eight ball with Ashton emerging victorious and in so doing winning 3-1 and keeping his Nubian Kings team unbeaten after two rounds of competition. Kings 3; Titans 2

The Nubian Kings are currently second on the standings United Stars and just ahead of Central Stars, the other undefeated teams after two rounds.

In other Premier Division matches, Golden Arches II was also the venue for the match between Poolhulics Krew A and United Stars. United Stars emerged with a 3-2 win.
