Mucurapo Ex-Pupils repeat as March Past champions

Mu­cu­rapo Ex-Pupils came away with their third straight March Past ti­tle to open the Lystra Lewis Port-of-Spain Net­ball League (LL­POSNL), themed “Em­brace the jour­ney; Ig­nite the pas­sion; A Sea­son of Pos­si­bil­i­ties” at the Wood­brook Youth Fa­cil­i­ty in Port-of-Spain on Sun­day.

LL­POSNL pres­i­dent, Deb­bie-Ann Fran­cois, who is al­so the new­ly elect­ed pres­i­dent of the T&T Net­ball As­so­ci­a­tion (TTNA), hopes the sea­son brings new op­por­tu­ni­ties and po­ten­tial for growth and change.

She thanked all for at­tend­ing the open­ing cer­e­mo­ny and en­cour­aged the clubs “to con­tin­ue sup­port­ing their charges, not on­ly at the open­ing but through­out the sea­son as we grow the sport.”

The Ex-Pupils marchers, cooly dressed in shades, im­pressed the judges with their dis­ci­pline and pre­ci­sion among the 20 clubs on pa­rade in the open­ing of the 86th edi­tion of the LL­POSNL, scor­ing 94 points to com­fort­ably take the crown ahead of Spar­tom in sec­ond place with 86 and in third spot, Uni­ty with 79.

The “Best Queen” on pa­rade for the sec­ond straight year was Kimo­ra Camp­bell of the Mu­cu­rapo Ex-Pupils club.

On the open­ing day, spec­ta­tors were al­so treat­ed to a mixed ex­hi­bi­tion match. The two teams - Black ver­sus White -fea­tured four men’s play­ers and three women’s play­ers on the court at any time. The Black team won 51-27.

Ac­cord­ing to the LL­POSNL pres­i­dent, the for­mat re­mains the same as last year with match­es be­ing played at the Wood­brook Youth Fa­cil­i­ty on Mon­days, Wednes­days and Sat­ur­days.

The 20 clubs will be play­ing in six Di­vi­sions - Ki­wi, B, In­ters, A2, A1 and Men’s.

Ac­tion be­gan on Wednes­day with knock­out com­pe­ti­tions in the Ki­wi and B Di­vi­sions, start­ing at 5 pm. For the oth­er di­vi­sion­al knock­out com­pe­ti­tions, In­ters are on April 2, from 5 pm, and the A2, A1 and Men are on April 5 at noon.
