Mucurapo Ex-Pupils came away with their third straight March Past title to open the Lystra Lewis Port-of-Spain Netball League (LLPOSNL), themed “Embrace the journey; Ignite the passion; A Season of Possibilities” at the Woodbrook Youth Facility in Port-of-Spain on Sunday.
LLPOSNL president, Debbie-Ann Francois, who is also the newly elected president of the T&T Netball Association (TTNA), hopes the season brings new opportunities and potential for growth and change.
She thanked all for attending the opening ceremony and encouraged the clubs “to continue supporting their charges, not only at the opening but throughout the season as we grow the sport.”
The Ex-Pupils marchers, cooly dressed in shades, impressed the judges with their discipline and precision among the 20 clubs on parade in the opening of the 86th edition of the LLPOSNL, scoring 94 points to comfortably take the crown ahead of Spartom in second place with 86 and in third spot, Unity with 79.
The “Best Queen” on parade for the second straight year was Kimora Campbell of the Mucurapo Ex-Pupils club.
On the opening day, spectators were also treated to a mixed exhibition match. The two teams - Black versus White -featured four men’s players and three women’s players on the court at any time. The Black team won 51-27.
According to the LLPOSNL president, the format remains the same as last year with matches being played at the Woodbrook Youth Facility on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The 20 clubs will be playing in six Divisions - Kiwi, B, Inters, A2, A1 and Men’s.
Action began on Wednesday with knockout competitions in the Kiwi and B Divisions, starting at 5 pm. For the other divisional knockout competitions, Inters are on April 2, from 5 pm, and the A2, A1 and Men are on April 5 at noon.
