LONDON, England – Despite reaching the semifinals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, no player from the West Indies Women’s team was selected in the Team of the Tournament.
Four players from Australia Women’s champion side along with two players from losing finalists England Women dominate the 12-member team announced by the ICC on Monday.
Australia’s Sophie Molineux, who claimed 11 wickets in seven matches, was named captain after leading her side to a comprehensive seven-wicket win over England on Sunday to capture their seventh T20 title.
She was joined by wicketkeeper Beth Mooney, who scored 238 runs in seven matches at an average of 47.60, Ellyse Perry, who scored 198 runs at an average of 49.50 and Ash Gardner, who scored 150 runs at an average of 50, while also taking three wickets.
England’s duo of Danni Wyatt-Hodge and captain Nat Sciver-Brunt were also included, while left-arm spinner Shree Charani was the lone Indian named in the team after finishing as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 14 scalps in just five matches – the second-highest tally ever recorded at a single Women’s T20 World Cup.
Ireland’s Orla Prendergast, Sri Lanka’s Nilakshika Silva, South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp and Pakistan captain Fatima Sana completed the XI.
