T&T boxer Nigel Paul had to settle for a bronze medal in the men’s heavyweight division at the 26th Acropolis Cup in Athens, Greece, after losing his semifinal bout via a split decision against Hrytsiv Oleksander of Ukraine on Saturday.
In the opening round, Paul outclassed his opponent Adijan Azemi of North Macedonia on Thursday afternoon by TKO to progress to the semifinals.
On Friday, Tiana Guy went under to Antonia Giannakopoulou of Greece 3-0 on points at the historic Panathenaic Stadium.
However, the T&T featherweight boxer will still be assured of a bronze medal because of the small number of fighters in the division. Coming off an impressive display at the 2022 IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships, in Istanbul, Turkey in May despite losing to Sitora Turdibekova of Uzbekistan on points 5-0, Guy was a far cry from the boxer then.
Another T&T fighter, Faith Ramnath, will spring into action in the final of the flyweight division against Chrsoula Plea of Greece today.
