Disappointed, yet pleased with their performance against quality opposition in Group A of the Concacaf Caribbean Cup, is how Miscellaneous Police FC coach Wendell Joseph feels.
He expressed this at the post-match press conference following his team's goalless draw with Jamaica's Mt Pleasant FC at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo, Port-of-Spain on Thursday night.
Joseph's men needed to win desperately to have a chance of progressing as one of the top two teams in the group, but despite well-created chances, they could not find the back of the nets.
Joseph, quizzed on how he felt about the result, said: "Disappointed. Everything that we expected tonight was there, we expected Mt Pleasant to come at us, we expected them to play fast and physically, we got that, but all-in-all I believe we matched them foot-to-foot. We created some opportunities as well, we hit the post but unfortunately, we did not score and that was disappointing."
He added: "Now that we have five points, the teams have an advantage over us, so getting three points tonight (Thursday) would have been very important to put the pressure on. So yes, I'm disappointed but what a formidable performance by my team tonight (Thursday)."
The Police exit followed the departure of another local team AC Port of Spain who finished with just two points in the group. In their last match against Cibao at the same venue on Tuesday, the Capital City Boyz squandered a 2-0 advantage to be edged 3-2.
Joseph told the media that the matches at the Concacaf Caribbean Cup were jolting for him and his team, saying he intends to use the experience for coming tournaments and matches.
"For Police FC, it is an eye-opener, having played in the tournament many years ago, I can say the quality is much higher now, we've seen where, as a club and as a team, that we are behind, with respect to preparation and stuff.
"We met three proper professional teams coming out of Jamaica and I believe that was a yardstick to measure how we played, and our ability to compete. So taking away from this tournament, we will go back to the drawing board, we will use this as a yardstick to prepare for upcoming matches and seasons."
Joseph concluded: "I am disappointed but yet pleased because of the quality of the opposition. They were properly prepared teams with proper foundation, and proper set-up, so we were in a win-win situation playing against these teams."
