Presentation Colleges of Chaguanas, San Fernando, Fatima, and Hillview College will all be looking to consolidate their positions on the Secondary Schools Premiership Division Cricket League table when round six bowled off at several venues across the country from 9 am on Tuesday.
The unbeaten Presentation Chaguanas will be sweating on the fitness of Jaydon Joseph, who scored back-to-back hundreds to start the season and missed the last match through injury, and while his presence may not missed against a young El Dorado team at El Dorado, they will want their players to be in top form ahead of next week’s match against Vishnu Boys College.
El Dorado has been the whipping boys this season, as the team is made up of young players, the youngest team in the competition.
Presentation College of Chaguanas will be hoping to bat first so they can give themselves a chance to attain the most possible bonus points available.
‘El Do’ will be hoping to go against all odds and salvage a win, as the game of cricket can prove to be very unpredictable.
Fatima College scored an important 70-run win over the previously unbeaten Vishnu Boys at Bamboo last week and the Mucurapo-based school will be hoping that will spark the rest of their 2024 campaign in the right direction, as they host cross-town rivals St Mary’s College.
The ‘Saints’ have been unbeaten through the first three rounds, but fell to the two Presentations in rounds four and five to slump to a three-two record. They will however try to avoid a third straight loss against a resurgent Fatima College and their league’s top scorer Zachary Seiwah, fresh from his match-winning 84 last week against Vishnu Boys.
After suffering their first loss last week against Fatima College, Vishnu Boys will be keen on getting back to winning ways against Naparima College. Again, they will be dependent on their in-form captain Andrew Ramberan who scored an unbeaten 68 for Merryboys on the weekend.
Ramberan will hope to solicit the support from their top order batters including Ishmael Ali and Aiden Lakhansingh to take some pressure off of him.
Champions Presentation College of San Fernando will not be taking things lightly against Hillview College. Fresh from scoring a century last week, ‘Pres’ would hope for a repeat today as the talented Aidian Racha returns and record another spectacular performance with both bat and ball at the team’s home ground at Union Hall, San Fernando.
While they are on a three-game win streak since the second-round defeat to the Vishnu Boys, they will hope that last year’s best batter Riyaad Mohammed gets among the runs again this year and today is as good as any for him to look for a three-digit score. He only has two scores of note this season. He has not been able to carry on from his starts and while his lowest score is 26 this season, one century and one half-century, it does not describe the talent of the opener he is, and he will want to remedy that against today’s opposition.
